Term 2 Kickoff at Northern School for Autism

Monday 04/05 marked another fantastic day in the garden as our Term 2 gardening program officially got underway at Northern School for Autism (NSA).

We were delighted to welcome six enthusiastic new students as we resumed our valued partnership between Lalor Neighbourhood House (NH) and NSA.

A strong community effort

A total of 17 participants came together to bring the garden to life:
Northern School for Autism students: 6
Northern School for Autism staff: 4
Lalor NH staff & volunteers: Jason, Leila, Damian (3)
Lalor NH placement students: Emily, Ruth, Heydar, ShiShir (4)

What we got up to

The garden was buzzing with activity, learning, and teamwork:
Aiden demonstrated pruning skills and impressively filled a whole garden bin
Marcus made sure our plants stayed happy and hydrated with some much-needed watering
Students explored the garden space and learned about fruit trees and seasonal growth
Everyone contributed, participated, and socialised throughout the session
Jason delivered an engaging masterclass in composting (a clear highlight of the day!)

Looking ahead

It was genuinely uplifting to see new and returning participants working side by side, sharing knowledge, and supporting one another in the garden space. The energy throughout the session reflected exactly what makes this partnership so valuable  a sense of inclusion, curiosity, and teamwork that naturally grows when people are given the opportunity to learn together in a hands-on environment.
We are proud of the progress made so far and deeply value the collaboration between NSA and Lalor NH staff and volunteers. With such strong engagement already in the first session, we are confident Term 2 will be another successful and rewarding chapter for everyone involved.

See you in the garden next time!
