About Lalor Neighbourhood House

The Lalor Neighbourhood House is a community-run incorporated association based in northern Melbourne. We have been providing quality adult education for our local area for over 33 years. Our Centre is used by members from Lalor, Thomastown, Epping, Mill Park, Bundoora, Reservoir, and surrounding areas. We are a Learn Local provider and a Neighbourhood House.

Our welcoming, friendly, and professional Centre offers a variety of activities and classes for members of the community. Many activities focus on adult education, including English and computer skills, but the Centre is supportive of learners of all ages and abilities, particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. We are an all-inclusive Centre, committed to creating a safe and supportive space for everyone.

At Lalor Neighbourhood House, we also focus on mental health and wellbeing, providing programs and activities that support personal growth, resilience, and connection. We are always looking for new ways to connect and engage with our community, and we love fresh ideas that help us grow and better serve our members.

In addition, we offer an Occasional Childcare Service, Homework Club and an After School Tutoring Program for members of our community.

Our History

Lalor Neighbourhood House started over 33 years ago, operating from a small three-bedroom weatherboard house at No. 1 Cyprus Street, near the library and May Rd shops, the site is now a car park. At one stage, two shipping containers were used as additional classrooms due to the growing demand from our community for more language and literacy classes. By the end of 2003, thanks to a grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Support Fund, the Adult Community & Further Education Board, and support from the City of Whittlesea, we were able to move to our present purpose-built facility alongside the existing French St. Hall.
