Celebrating Jason’s Scullin Volunteer Award Nomination
We are incredibly proud to share that Lalor Neighbourhood House has nominated our very own Jason for the Scullin Volunteer Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to our community.
Since joining Lalor Neighbourhood House in February 2025, Jason has become an integral part of our centre. Whether he’s caring for the community garden, designing promotional materials, cooking BBQs at events, tackling maintenance jobs, or simply offering a friendly smile and listening ear, Jason is always the first to put his hand up to help.
Our staff and volunteers describe Jason as someone who leads with kindness, respect and generosity.
Zaheda Dayoub, Coordinator of Volunteers, shared:
“Jason comes into the centre every day to help. He is selfless, genuinely cares about our volunteers, staff and community, and is a truly reliable and trustworthy young man.”
Community Gardener Damian Richardson describes Jason as “the backbone of the garden” and said:
“Jason touches everyone with his kindness, honesty and incredible willingness to help. He is a true community champion.”
English Teacher Mahe Castles added:
“Jason has a calm demeanour, is knowledgeable and easy to work with. His dedication, positive outlook and supportive communication make him a joy to have around.”
Jason’s journey has also been one of personal growth. Staff have watched him grow in confidence, build meaningful friendships and become a welcoming face for everyone who walks through our doors. His warmth and willingness to help have inspired fellow volunteers and created a genuine sense of belonging within our community.
Reflecting on his nomination, Jason said:
“I am very honoured to be nominated to receive this Volunteer Award and recognised for the work I have done at Lalor Neighbourhood House. My heartfelt thanks goes to all the staff, volunteers, students and community members I work with at the centre. They have made the centre such a heartwarming place to be around and I appreciate each and every person volunteering their time to give back to the community.”
While the award recipients are yet to be announced, we already know Jason is a winner in our eyes. His dedication, compassion and willingness to help others have made a lasting impact on everyone at Lalor Neighbourhood House.
Congratulations, Jason, and thank you for everything you do. We wish you the very best in the Scullin Volunteer Awards!
