Garden Buzz Growing Strong at Lalor Neighbourhood House
There’s something special happening in our garden at Lalor Neighbourhood House and the community is noticing!
Thanks to the ongoing dedication of our wonderful garden facilitator Damian, alongside the incredible efforts of Jason and many other volunteers, the garden is thriving. The positive energy is spreading, with more and more people joining in and experiencing the joy of being part of this vibrant space.
On Wednesday 29 April, we welcomed an amazing 27 participants into the garden! This included new volunteer Rada, regular contributors Jason, Lachie, Kellie (support worker), and Li, along with occasional volunteers Mandy, Maria, and Jeanette. We were also joined by placement students ShiShir, Haider, and Emily, as well as a fantastic group from My Choice Support ( 8 clients and 8 support workers) who continue to grow their gardening, confidence, and social skills with us.
The day was filled with meaningful moments. ShiShir, Rana, and Mandy lovingly watered the commemorative tree dedicated to our much-loved volunteer Neena, taking time to reflect on her lasting impact. Jason, with support from Lachie and Kellie, continued shaping the garden’s beautiful green canopies creating the shady spaces we all enjoy. Li has quickly become our expert weeder, keeping the garden looking its best.
We also sent our heartfelt appreciation to Maria Madia, who has generously volunteered at Lalor NH for around 30 years. Her visits and wise “Nonna” advice are always treasured.
One of the most touching moments of the day came when Jeanette offered comfort to a local resident, Maria, who was grieving the recent loss of her husband of 65 years. With kindness and compassion, Jeanette reminded us all what community truly means, locals supporting locals.
The partnership between Lalor Neighbourhood House and My Choice Support continues to flourish, and watching participants grow in confidence is like a big warm hug for everyone involved.
Our garden is more than just a place to grow plants it’s a space where connection, care, and community come to life.
Come by, get involved, and feel the buzz for yourself!
