Growing together in the garden
Our Gardening Club was full of smiles, teamwork and plenty of gardening on Monday 17 August!
It was lovely to welcome Julian for his first time volunteering with the Gardening Club, alongside our regular garden helper Leila. Max joined us with his support worker Annalise, and we were also joined by the boys from Northern School for Autism (NSA).
There was plenty to do in the garden. Leila got stuck into the weeding with Max and Henry, while Kun Yu helped water our thirsty plants and worked alongside Jason to clear the weeds.
It was especially lovely to see Julian enjoying himself, getting involved with the weeding and spending time chatting with everyone.
Marcus also did a fantastic job helping to clean up the garden, collecting lots of rubbish along the way. He was surprised by just how many cigarette butts were around!
Max was warmly welcomed by the NSA boys, and it was wonderful to see everyone spending time together, having a chat, helping out and getting to know one another. These little moments of connection are what make our garden such a special part of the community.
And perhaps our favorite moment of the day came from Max, who said:
“I love coming here. When I get a job, I still want to come along.”
We think that says it all!
Our Gardening Club is not just about growing plants, it’s about growing friendships, confidence, skills and community connections. We love seeing new faces join us and watching everyone find their place in the garden.
