Lalor Neighbourhood House Featured in Landscape Australia
We are proud to share that Lalor Neighbourhood House has been featured in Landscape Australia, one of the country’s leading publications dedicated to landscape architecture, design and community spaces.
The article, titled “Warm Welcome: Lalor Neighbourhood House”, highlights our community garden and outdoor gathering space, celebrating the project’s focus on connection, inclusion and community participation. The feature recognises how a modestly scaled project can have a significant impact by creating opportunities for people to come together, build relationships and strengthen their sense of belonging.
The article explores the collaborative design process led by Fooks Landscape Architecture, which involved extensive consultation with staff, volunteers, artists and community members. It also acknowledges the contributions of artists Bushra Hasan, Ildiko Kormanyos and Wurundjeri artist Alex Kerr, whose artworks help bring the space to life.
Landscape Australia notes that the garden reflects the values that have guided Lalor Neighbourhood House for more than 33 years: welcoming people, fostering connections and supporting community wellbeing. The garden’s accessible design, native plantings, public art and inviting gathering spaces create opportunities for learning, conversation and shared experiences.
Today, the garden is used by a wide range of community groups and programs, providing a vibrant space for gardening, learning, creativity and social connection. The feature celebrates the power of community-led projects and demonstrates how thoughtfully designed public spaces can enrich people’s lives.
We thank everyone who contributed to the Lalor Refresh Project and helped transform the space into the welcoming community asset it is today. This recognition belongs to our staff, volunteers, participants, partners and community members whose creativity, hard work and commitment made the project possible.
