Nature, Art and Creativity with Ildi!

Between 1995 and 2000, Ildi developed and led a nature-education program for primary school children an initiative dedicated to helping young people learn about, appreciate, and protect the natural environment. The program encouraged students to connect with the creatures around them and understand why caring for nature is so important. It was later recognised by the government in Hungary and Ildi was given an award for its impact.

Over five years, the program grew to include seven schools across three nearby towns, though it began with just one local school, which was her son’s. That same year, a creative design competition called Step Into the Future” was launched, adding even more community engagement and excitement.
The program proudly carried the name “Information, Self-Fulfilment, Nature Protection.”

Teachers, parents, and community members all played a role, making the project a shared experience that brought joy to everyone involved.

While Ildi was painting the bright insect murals at Lalor Neighbourhood House last week, children stopped to watch and told her how much they loved the artwork. Their smiles reminded me of those earlier years, of how powerful it is when a community comes together to learn, to create, and to celebrate nature.
We’re excited to watch Ildi bring these vibrant murals to life, and we can’t wait for her to begin the final piece, a buzzing bee near our child care area.

Stay tuned for more photos as the artworks continue to brighten our community spaces!
