In the Spotlight – Sisters Who Sow: Charlotte!
We love watching our Sisters Who Sow participants grow in confidence, independence and connection, and this week we’re putting the spotlight on Charlotte!
Charlotte has been a wonderful part of the program and it has been fantastic to see her become more confident, chatty and comfortable within the group. For Charlotte, Sisters Who Sow has been about much more than gardening and cooking. It has given her an opportunity to learn new skills, meet people, make friendships and feel part of a welcoming community.
Charlotte’s Story
“I love the program Sisters Who Sow because I am learning about gardening and learning about tips for gardening. I also love that we use the stuff we grow and use it in our cooking.
It has helped me with my confidence to talk to new people and helped me with my independence. I love the staff at Lalor Neighbourhood House and they have made me feel comfortable and safe.
I also love that I have made new friends and I talk nearly every time I am there. I kind of struggle to make new friends, but thanks to the program Sisters Who Sow, I am more talkative.”
From the Garden – Tam
Tam, our gardener, has noticed Charlotte’s enthusiasm from the very beginning. Charlotte is often one of the first to arrive, happily getting stuck into the little jobs that help prepare the garden for the day.
She is always keen to lend a hand, whether it’s helping with set-up or taking on those small jobs that make a big difference. Recently, Charlotte happily helped chop up trays of planter cells so they could fit into our DIY styrofoam box greenhouses.
Tam describes Charlotte as chatty, bright and always happy to help, and it’s wonderful to see her confidence shine through as she gets involved.
In the Kitchen – Atalia
Atalia, our cook, has also seen Charlotte’s enthusiasm grow. She is often one of the first to arrive, ready to get involved and have a go.
Charlotte is enthusiastic and observant, taking notice of what is happening around her and getting right into the activities. She is also thoughtful and considerate of her friends, helping to create the inclusive and supportive atmosphere that makes Sisters Who Sow so special.
It’s been fantastic to see Charlotte become more comfortable speaking with others, sharing her ideas and enjoying the friendships she has made along the way.
Growing Together
Charlotte’s story is a beautiful reminder that growth isn’t just about what we plant in the garden.
It’s also about confidence, independence, friendships and finding a place where you feel comfortable being yourself.
We’re so proud to see how far Charlotte has come and we can’t wait to see what she grows, creates and learns next!
