Our Family Fun Day all started with a City of Whittlesea Events Grant that Renjith Thomas won for LNH while he was on student placement. Lucky for us, Renjith stayed involved with LNH as both a volunteer and as a committee member! What great contributions! As Renjith noted, it was an intergenerational event with the main goal to encourage the local community  to participate in social programs, eliminate Post COVID fear, rejuvenate social connections and knowledge transfer from elders to school children.  It was all about sustainability and caring for the environment!

Bushra helped the children paint eco-friendly garden pots while Renjith explained about gardening, winter vegetables, garden tools and the importance of reducing plastic usage. The children and their parents planted the pots with winter vegetable seeds to grow at home. The children participated in a recycling game learning about waste management; identifying  rubbish; recycling; compost waste and waste  disposal in the colour coded council bins. Some families said game cleared some of their doubts about waste sorting since they were new to Australia.  After the refreshments, children and parents were actively involved in  the ‘Game of rings ‘. Our wonderful student, Virginia explained game rules to the attendees. All children participated at the event received a gift packet from LNH.

More than 100 people attended  the event – and everyone had a fun day! Thanks too, to Bunnings, QBD Epping and Officeworks for their kind donations that helped make all the activities happen!
