It’s been quite a week! We were all working away last Tuesday morning, with the Vietnamese Women’s Association Senior’s lunch in full swing in the hall when someone came racing into the building yelling fire! Thanks to their quick action and that of the Whittlesea Community Connections Bus Driver who rang 000, we were able to evacuate the building and get everyone safe before the fire broke through the ceiling and starting falling onto the tables below. Fortunately, the fire was contained to one end of the French St Hall (which will be out of action for some months) but the rest of the centre remained closed until the Survey Engineer gave the all clear.

So we are back in the office this week but finish up for the year on Thursday 14 December. We’ll be back on January 15, 2024. Thanks to everyone who helped with the safe evacuation of the building and thanks to all the City of Whittlesea teams, who have been absolutely fabulous in getting the building secured and safe to return. The support has been wonderful. Especial thanks to St Luke’s Primary School who hosted our final Christmas Community Lunch and our Homework Club end of year party. We are so grateful.

Meantime, you might see some action out the front as the new community garden works start early in January. So many exciting things in the works for 2024.
